Interview with our Fabulous Phoebe G

  1. Name
Phoebe Galvan
  1. Nationality
  1. How did you become a model?
I started modeling at a young age. I was scouted by Elite Model Management when I was about 13 years old. At the time however, I was fully committed to dancing ballet. So, I put my modeling dreams aside until just last year.
  1. What did you do before you became a model?
Before modeling I worked at a rock climbing facility. I have also worked as a baker, and artist.
  1. Describe yourself in five words
Charismatic, ambitious, diligent, motivated, Athletic
  1. What are your biggest passions in life?
My biggest passions in life -other than modeling- are acting, rock climbing, surfing -basically anything outdoor and extreme has my name written on it. I love to push my body to the limit.
  1. How do you keep in shape?
As mentioned, I am a rock climber. What’s great about the sport is that it doesn’t feel like a work out. I hate the gym, personally, and love rock climbing because you never feel like you are going for a ‘workout’. You just do it to have fun, and to enjoy eachother’s company. This and any other outdoor sport is right up my alley. Mountaineering, free soloing, parkour, surfing, yoga -all that good stuff.
  1. What is one makeup product you can’t live without?
Honestly, I am not a huge fan of makeup. It’s an art of itself, and can be an amazing way of expressing oneself. But for me, I like the natural look. I’m not a fan of being caked with cosmetics. That being said, on a shoot, it can be so much fun to transform into a new character through the power of makeup.
  1. Who is your biggest inspiration in the fashion industry?
I always say my ideal style is sophistication, elegance, and timelessness. The person that embodies this, is Audrey Hepburn. Her style transcends time. And in my opinion, the best clothes are the ones that you can wear now, and will still be beautiful in 50 years time. My mother is without a doubt my biggest fashion inspiration.. Most of my clothes I wear now, are hers from when she was my age and living in Paris and New York. She always told me “You can show skin without being sleazy or riskay, you can show skin and be sophisticated and elegant.” She is one of my biggest inspirations in life, and will continue to be.
  1. What is your favourite shoot that you have done and why?
My favourite shoot I've done was with Seann Richard Alexander. I was still a relatively inexperienced model, and he took the time to teach me about my angles etc. But my favourite shoots are always anything where I get to have creative freedom. I always have so many idea’s of how I can make interesting, fresh, innovative poses that aren’t the same old, same old. I want to express myself with this art form. I love extreme shoots like with a large tiger or snake, or something that would test my physical and mental limits.
  1. What are three pros and three cons of being a model?
The pros of modeling are that you get to travel -need I say more!?? I love traveling. The people you meet, the connections you make, the culture, the exploration -I really believe that you get so much more from traveling than by sitting in any classroom. The cons? Well, yes of course you may be away from family and friends, and you will have to adjust to new situations that may not always cater to what you normally like/want. But it's all part of the adventure! And now, you've got so many stories to share...
  1. What would your dream job as a model be?
I would love to be an Aerie girl. I think that what they stand for is really amazing and a step in the right direction. We are all beautiful and should love the skin we’re in.
  1. Why did you choose to come model in Mumbai?
I chose to come to Mumbai because; well who wouldn’t want to have an adventure in India for 3 whole  months!? I get to live here and experience what India is like. I chose Mumbai because it is so different to my own country. I wanted to experience a whole new life and culture. I love learning. And this was an amazing opportunity to open my eyes to the world.
  1. What are your plans for the future?
My plans for the future are to continue traveling and seeing what opportunities open up to me. Then I want to move to Manhattan to focus on my Acting career.
  1. What has been the best advice you have received as a model?
My dad always taught me that “when there’s a will there’s a water (way)”. And I think that these are some of the best words I have lived by, and will continue to live by. The modeling world can be a tough place. There is constant rejections, the work is not stable, and it can be long hard days for -sometimes- little to no money. I didn’t start my career in India. I started doing volunteer shoots and traveling 4 to 6 hours a day for auditions. It wasn't easy, but I always remembered what my dad told me, so I continued to persist through the good, the bad, and the ugly times. Now, look at me, I’m in India!
