Jessica Lavoie Allerton… But call me Jess
3. How did you become a model?
I don’t even remember when I decided I wanted to model, it was always just something that I dreamed of doing. I started doing photo-shoots when I was about 15 years old, and because Victoria is so small it was easy to get jobs from there. However, I guess I became a model when my mother agency, Coultish Management, signed me.
4. What did you do before you became a model?
I was a first year History and Art History major at UVIC.
5. What are your biggest passions in life?
I guess my current passion is health, to nourish my body and my surroundings. Traveling is also a big passion of mine; I'm the kind of person that is always looking for the next big adventure.
6. What is your favourite part of being a model?
My favourite part of being a model, is the moment during a photo-shoot when everything comes together and just clicks. When there is a burst of energy because everyone is so excited about what is being produced.
7. What is you favourite shoot that you have done and why?
My favourite shoot so far, has to be one I did for Boulevard Magazine. I got to bring my boyfriend of the time along to this beautiful location on an island. It was probably one of the longest and hardest shooting days I have ever done but the photos produced were magical.
8. What is your beauty routine?
I have very sensitive skin, so my routine is minimal with mostly all natural products and I use the same routine morning and night. I start by cleansing my skin with glacial purifying cleanser, then using cotton pads I wipe my face with apple cider vinegar (seems odd, but clears any blemishes). Now that my face is clean and fresh I like to use a soothing cream to dap around my eyes and an antioxidant rich moisturizer to finish me off.
9. What is one makeup product you can’t live without?
On a normal day I don't like to wear any makeup, however if I am wearing makeup it’s light and natural looking. My favourite item in my makeup bag right now is the Miracle Cushion Foundation by Lancôme. Also, BRONZER, is my all time without fail pump up my face product. I like the Two Faced bronzer, in a matte finish it can be used for contouring too.
10. Who is your biggest inspiration in the fashion industry?
I can’t really pick, there are so many different people I look to for different things. Cara Delevingne, would be among my most inspirational because of her care free spirit, she is able to keep her personality unadulterated by the industry which is really important to me.
11. What are three pros and three cons of being a model?
Pros: Travel, life experience, opportunity to meet wonderful people. Cons: Body image, negativity surrounding the industry, a model's day doesn't end when a job does.
12. What would your dream job as a model be?
My dream job would either be a campaign for a well-known couture designer, or tropical jungle themed shoot for vogue.
13. What are your model goals?
To take it as far as I am able to, without any expectations.
14. What are you looking forward to most about coming to India as a model?
I am looking forward to seeing Mumbai, because without this opportunity I probably would never have been able to go, or be able to live in a city that has so much culture and history. I am also extremely excited to be able to appreciate the traditional garb of Indian women and men.
15. What advice would you give to an aspiring model?
The best thing you can do is to put yourself out there and keep trying, because no one else can do that for you.
